Bwhahahahaha…. okay….I really must try to not laugh so much while I am typing this! 😉

I have thought about a blog post like this for quite some time and it just finally hit me that there really was no reason NOT to! I am a HUGE advocate of having current and up-to-date headshots. And yes, this goes for pretty much any professional out there! Headshots are not just for actors, entertainers, singers or other artists…nope….headshots are for anyone really. Attorneys, Hair stylists, Makeup artists, Realtors, CPA’s, Florists, Massage therapists, … gosh there are so many more! To this day, in Germany, you have to have a current headshot with your resume. No matter where you send it to or what job you apply to. (And please correct me if I am wrong here my Germans!! LOL) Here in the States? Good grief….such a thing is unheard of apparently! But you know what? I don’t care! It seriously annoys me when I browse through websites and I either a) see horrible heashots, b) headshots that turn out to be completely dated or c) no headshots at all. What the? Really? And yes, I am speaking out, this is my Blog after all, and some might take offense…. so be it. My Blog, my opinion and I am sorry if I offend you…..if you are a professional (especially you photographers out there!)…. and you do NOT have a current, good (!) headshot of yourself….shame on you!! Feel free to contact me today and I’d be happy to schedule a shoot with you. 😉 Some say they cannot afford it. Others, and trust me I hear this ALL THE TIME…”I want to loose some more weight.” Oh please, give me a break! Unless you are actually living a healthy diet and are on a regular fitness plan….that day may not be here in 4, 6, 8 or even 12 months! Trust me, I am speaking from experience! 😉 A good photographer will make sure through posing, lighting and whatnot that you will look good in your pictures. Oh, but do not forget hair & makeup!!! Oh yes, your usual, day-to-day hair and makeup doesn’t cut it. Makeup shows up on film about 2 shades lighter. Do NOT expect your photographer to add makeup or drastically enhance your makeup in post production. We would and will charge extra for that! You might be better of hiring someone with good experience to do your hair and makeup for you. Again….you want to look your absolute best in your headshots. So save up if you must!

Okay…so the next reason why I wanted to post about this is…. the beloved and yet dreaded before and after. Hahaha… just the other day I had someone comment on a before and after picture of mine how much they would be worried I would post their before picture. Really? *sigh* Okay. SO…. yes, we all love to see the transformation. And yes, we don’t all run around looking fabulous and perfectly styled all day, every day. I get it! trust me…..I laughed so hard when I stitched together my before and after. SO HARD!!!! It’s funny! At least I think so. 😉 I do beautiful transformations for my Portrait Couture clients. I don’t think it would be fair for me to not show my very own before and after picture. heheheheh So…. enjoy! There will be no laughing at me….because without a doubt, you are laughing with me. 😀

If you follow me on Facebook….I’m sure you have seen my “fun” Alter Ego album. It is filled with images of myself. LOL I document days, when I really like my makeup, or my hair, or when the light in my office was really good and kept distracting me. So many people have asked me repeatedly how I manage to take my own headshots. Well, to me it is somewhat simple. I use my Nikon D700 coupled with the Nikkor 35 f1.4G. I have tried the 50 and my 24-70mm lens and I very much didn’t like the feel holding the 24-70 nore the look of the images I was able to get and the 50 was just a little too close for my taste. If you have long arms, or longer arms than me…the 50 might work for you. The last image is of my current “studio” where I take the majority of my portrait couture images as well as pretty much all my headshots. Soft window light with multiple reflectors (those hardboard ones I talked about in the previous post!) And one large board behind me as my backdrop. I take one test shot, usually of my hand…LOL, and then start rolling. Yes, I have plenty of outtakes. And yes, it takes some time to figure out what angle works for you personally. But….it’s fun when you do get some really good ones!

Ich hab schon seid längerem mit dem Gedanken oder der Idee gespielt diesen Eintrag mit euch zu teilen. Und heute hab ich mir gedacht….warum eigentlich nicht? Ich bin recht stur wenn es um Headshots geht. Meiner Meinung nach sollte so gut wie jeder einen haben. In Deutschland ist es ja Gang und Gebe mit dem Lebenslauf/Resume eins mitzuschicken. Aber hier in Amerika….da kennt man sowas nicht. Sehr wenige Leute haben professionelle Headshots von sich selbst. Es gibt so viele verschiedenen Karrieren oder Jobs bei denen man einen aktuellen Headshot haben sollte oder sogar haben muss. Mir ist es im grunde egal was für einen Job man hat. Besonders als Selbstständige sollte man einen haben. Und ja, es gibt sicherlich jemand der sich hiermit auf den Schlips getreten fühlt, aber….es ist mein Blog. Meine eigene Meinung zu der ich stehe. Wenn du dein eigenes Business hast, besonders mit eigener Webseite und so, und da gibt es kein akltuelles Foto von dir zu sehen…..schäm dich! Zu oft sehe ich Seiten wo entweder a) schlechte Headhshots zu sehen sind, b) Headshots die total veraltet sind, oder c) wo es garkeine Headshots zu sehen gibt. Echt jetzt? Das geht nicht! Es nervt mich ehrlich gesagt. Besonders wenn es auf einer Fotografen Seite ist. Eh bitte was? DU bist Fotograf!!!!! Mach dein eigenens Foto! Und wenn du es nicht kannst, oder kein Fotograf bist…bitte einfach bei mir melden. 😉 Und wenn ich euch nicht fotografieren kann, dann kann ich euch ggf an jemand anderen weiterleiten! Ich hör auch zu oft die Ausreden wie “Das kostet zu viel Geld!” Oder “Ich warte lieber noch ein paar Wochen/Monate bis ich ein paar Kilos weniger habe!” Es sei denn du lebst nach einer gesunden Diät mit regelmäßigem Sport….dieser Tag wird nicht so schnell kommen. Glaub mir! Ich spreche aus eigener Erfahrung! 😉 Ein guter Fotograf weiß wie sie dich in’s rechte Licht rücken können. Das ist Tatsache und nicht nur ein alter Spruch! Vergess allerdings nicht eine gute Visagistin und Stylistin (Frau oder Mann…ist mir doch Wurscht!) zu buchen! Dein tägliches Makeup ist einfach nicht genug. Makeup so wie die meißten es täglich tragen kommt einfach nicht auf Bildern rüber. Makeup, wenn abgelichtet, erscheint ca 2 Farbtöne heller als es in Wirklichkeit ist. Gute Visagistin wissen das und können dich so schminken, dass du immernoch natürlich aussiehst, jedoch verfeinert! Klar, der Fotograf könnte das doch auch später in Photoshop machen. Ha! Das Kommentar hör ich auch immer wieder. Ja, das können wir. Aber wenn, dann stell dich schonmal auf eine seperate Rechnung ein, denn sowas muss in den meisten Fällen extra bezahlt werden und im Durchschnitt liegst du da besser wenn du eine Visagistin und Stylistin zusätzlich buchst. Du willst doch dein bestes aussehen, oder?! Also spar lieber etwas und gönn es dir!

Okay…der 2. Grund weshalb ich diesen Blog poste ist das geliebte und ggf gehasste vorher-nachher Foto. Hahaha… gerade gestern hat wieder jemand auf eines meiner vorher-nachher Fotos kommentiert und gesagt, dass sie Bammel hätte ich würde ihr vorher Foto zeigen. Uhm…Hallo….. na logo zeig ich das! Das ist doch das Coole an der ganzen Sache! Ich liebe diese vorher-nachher Fotos wo man eine coole, und manchmal riesen Transformation sieht. Klar, es weiß doch jeder das wir nicht jeden Tag so voll gestylt und perfekt durch die Gegend laufen. Wir sind normale Leute und keine super models! Ich versteh es. Total. Glaubt mir…..und ich hab mich fast beömmelt vor Lachen als ich mein eigenes vorher-nachher Foto zusammengestellt habe. hihi… Lacht ruhig mit mir….ich bin jetzt noch dran! Ich find es einfach lustig. 😉 Ich zeig das vorher Foto für meine Portrait Couture Reihe und es wäre nicht fair meinen Kunden gegenüber, wenn ich nicht meine eigene Version hier online hätte, gelle?! 😉 Ich liebe schöne Transformationen!!:D

Wenn du mir auf Facebook folgst, kennst du sicherlich schon mein “lustiges” Alter Ego Fotoalbum. Da sind nur Fotos von mir selbst drin. LOL Ich halte Tage fest an denen mir mein Makeup gut gefällt oder meine Haare schön gestylt sind. Manchmal lenkt mich einfach das tolle Licht im Büro ab. haha Es haben mich schon soooo viele Leute gefragt wie ich denn meine eigenen Headshots mache. Es ist vom Prinzip her recht simple. Ich benutze meine Kamera, Nikon D700, und das Nikkor 35mm f1,4G Objektiv. Ich hab es schon mit dem 50er und dem 24-70mm Objektiv probiert war aber persönlich nicht so davon begeistert. Da ich sie meist ohne Stativ mache und die Kamera einfach selbst vor mich halte, ist das 24-70er einfach zu lang und schwer. Wenn du lange Arme hast könnte das 50er bei dir passen. Meine Arme sind kürzer und daher waren für mich die Fotos einfach zu nah. 35mm ist perfekt für mich! Ich hab euch am Ende auch noch Fotos von meinem “Studio” angehangen wo ganz viele meiner Portrait Couture Fotos erstehen und so gut wie alle meine Headshots fotografiert werden. Zartes Tageslicht durch`s Fenster mit verschiedenen Reflektoren (die Papp-Reflektoren die ich im vorherigen Eintrag angesprochen habe!) und eine große Platte hinter mir als Hintergrund. Mehr nicht. Ich mache zu erst ein Testfoto, meistens von meiner eigenen Hand. Dann wird gespielt. Na klar hab auch ich so einige Outtakes. Haha Übung macht den Meister und je mehr man übt desto besser weiß man welcher Winkel passt und welcher eben nicht. Wenn es dann aber mal klappt….freut man sich um so mehr!
