FaceTime Portrait Sessions

By now, you’re probably using FaceTime and other video chat apps such as WhatsApp, Zoom, Skype, FB Messenger, Google Duo…to socialize. Pretty much everyone you know is most likely in a full quarantine lockdown or under some shelter-in-place order. These are strange times for sure.

Are you feeling cooped up yet?

Not being able to socialize definitely has been a bit more challenging for my teenagers than it has been for me. Living thousands of miles, oceans and continents away from your family and best friends for years has prepared me for this new “normal” socializing.

With these shelter-in-place orders I have also been trying to come up with fun (new to me) ways to connect and stay engaged with my clients, friends, and family.

When I first heard about the #frontporchproject, I thought it was a fantastic idea. Then shelter-in-place orders hit. Professional photography in most places fell into the non-essential category. So, there went that idea. Now what was I to do? I decided to utilize something I had been doing for years already anyways! I started offering virtual/FaceTime sessions, aka #FTsessions.

FaceTime Sessions are a perfect way to stay connected, create new content for your business/brand social media presence, while also staying at home and social distancing!

Since you can virtually chat with anyone, from anywhere…your pool of clientele just quadrupled! *I don’t actually have any statistics on this and I’m sure that number is exponentially larger than 4. I’m sure it’s at least a 10 really, if not more. But I’m sure you get what I am trying to say here.

You can make these session as long as you want, or short and sweet. Here’s an idea: offer them as mini sessions. Make sure you communicate well with your clients/subjects before your actual video call. That way you’re on the same page and not wasting anyone’s time. Virtual sessions are a great way to commemorate and remember this strange and wild time in our lives. But they are especially great for anyone on social media! Businesses, influencers and professionals who are used to professional headshot & branding sessions (such a this one right here I did with Judith Williams for example) especially know that having fresh content is crucial.

If you can’t actually create professional content yourself, and you can’t necessarily go out and shoot with a professional photographer, staying at home for both parties and working together virtually is a fantastic way to still get you that fresh new content you want and what your business needs. Plus, you are connecting with others and feeding that need to socialize and interact. Double win!

Virtual portrait sessions – the perfect marketing idea for your photography business!

Oh, and these are actually something you can continue to offer…even after things go back to “normal”. Yay!

Here are just a few samples from some of my recent #ftsessions.
